Stone Soup publishes the best writing by children 10 to 13. We publish the caliber work that inspires serious writers. Stone Soup has been part of GATE creating writing programs since we first began publishing in 1973. We have contributors, like ___, who send us stories every week. Many of our contributors write more, and more consistently, than many an adult writer. For those of us who know what children can do — there is little more awe inspiring that the work of talented creative writers.

Stone Soup offers a creative writing community composed of peers for your motivated gifted and talented students. Students in GATE programs rarely need motivation, but for those who do, the lure of getting published in Stone Soup can turn on the switch that gets them performing up to their potential.

Look over some of the material posted on our web site. We suggest you read _____, ____, and ___. There is also an extensive archive of creative work we have published at archive.stonesoup.com.

Stone Soup is beautifully produced. The magazine itself, as a physical object, is nicely proportioned, with classic typography and high quality color illustrations. I mention this because in this time of free information — including the hundreds of stories and poems we offer on this site — I think it important remember that there is nothing like holding in ones hand a physical object that is well designed. Stone Soup says to gifted and talented writers that the world at large really does value your work. While I encourage you to use this Stone Soup web site as a teaching aid in GATE programs, we also encourage you to buy one or more subscriptions. I am sure you will find that the magazine itself will bring magic to your classroom and help you help your most creative and talented studens to reach for their star.

If you work in a GATE program and already use Stone Soup in your creative writing curiculum, please contact me william@williamrubel.com. I’d like to set up a few blogs written by teachers who use Stone Soup. If you’d be interested in having your own teaching blog, let me know. If a blog might be toomuch for you, but if you’d like to share your ideas for a creative writing curriculum that utilizes Stone Soup for some part of it, let me know that as well. I’ll try to find a spot for you on the Stone Soup web site where you can share your ideas.
