There is lots of wind. Wind and sun shining through the leaves on the trees. I could grow wings if I wanted to, but right now I just want to stand in the wind. This is a place for singing and almost flying. I can fly here and the only reason I don't is because I don't want to. Thank you maple for being the way to this place.
Muma always said, “No ghosts, Zeline. If you ever meet one, turn away and run.” before I went to sleep. And even though I knew the stories of ghosts were rubbish, it kept me awake. The soft rustling of the velvet curtains, the whispers outside my window and the small creaks in the old wooden stairs were always there. I always got a tense feeling that someone was in our house.
An update from our second Writing Workshop with Conner Bassett
A summary of the workshop held on Saturday April 24, plus some of the output published below
In the second Writing Workshop of the Spring/Summer Session led by Conner Bassett, we discussed the differences between plot and narrative. Firstly, we considered the fact that while all plots are narratives, not all narratives are plots.
Sea of Warn The ghosts from the Sea of Warn All have something to say For the ghosts from the Sea of Warn All have to warn someday
They come to the mortal world With a warning to give To friends from the mortal world And they can continue to give
And when the leader of the ghosts says, “Let’s go back!” The group of all the ghosts go on, as The wind blows past
A Chinese lantern is typically red. It has a red string at the top to hold; it also has some Chinese words on its body and gold strips at the bottom. It is normally in red and gold because both colors mean richness and luck, as a traditional wish. Inside of the Chinese lantern is made of red cloth and has a candle to light it up.
“Fly” By Aditi Nair, 13 Midlothian, VA Bouncing off the white fluffs, she went into the air. Gliding and soaring with the expressionless winds. Gliding and soaring with the youthful cheers. Gliding and soaring with her arms wide open– large and welcoming, leisurely chirping with those around her. Flying in a place where judgement drowns, and uniqueness is heard.
Andrew’s Will (William’s class) By Peri Gordon, 11
Samuel had made a pact with his wealthy brother, Andrew. When Andrew died, he would leave half his fortune to Samuel in his will. But when Andrew passed, no will of his could be found. It left Samuel tremendously angry. At the same time, he mourned the loss of his brother.

Floating infinitely Through an abyss of thoughts Almost as if you are sinking Because your pool of thoughts is deeper than anticipated Lightness is like soaring underwater Like dancing in the rain Release all the heavy thoughts That may contaminate your mind To reach true lightness You must be blank You must be empty You must be hollow And you may begin to wonder Is lightness really a good thing?
10 days 10 days. That was how long I’d been in heaven. Heavenwas just like people thought of it as. The whole area is up in theclouds above all the souls still tethered down there. Yet still I yearnfor the sense of unpredictability you have on earth. And now I startto wonder if I'm thinking about this wrong. Maybe that tether that keeps youdown there isn't stopping you but saving you.
