I knew where I wanted to go, yet I hesitated remembering my conversation with my mom that morning. “Are you going to Chemistry Club during your free period?” she asked. “Maybe” I replied unenthusiastically. “There is also a craft in the library to make magnets with banned book quotes. I might go to that....” There was silence.

My music has a military feel paired with a more “grey” tone in a slower tempo to convey the atmosphere for a piece on remembrance so we do not forget the past. I chose the sounds of the piano, flute and drums. Drum represents the light military beat, piano the base layer and for contrasting or duet with the flute (main voice).

In a seventh grade History unit, every student in my class made a model house of someone living in a certain place, and wrote a creative story based on the culture.
My dad parked the car in the parking lot of the performing arts center. I hopped out of the car. It wasn’t the first time I had been there. My family often came here to listen to concerts. But this time, something was different. I wasn’t here to listen. I was here to play. I grabbed my violin and followed my parents to the staircase. I was excited.
When I began composing this song, I started with a motif- the few notes of melody on which a song is based. Next, I messed around on the keyboard until elaborated the melody, added a B section, and returned to the original motif. Finally, my piano teacher helped me add the left-hand harmony.
